This is a scheme that the government in the UK has created in order to encourage property owners to use renewable heat technologies by providing financial incentives. Currently, the government’s stated aim is for 12% of heating energy to come from renewable sources by 2020. The Renewable Heat Incentive is designed to help achieve that goal.
The RHI is currently in place for the industrial, business and public sectors and is planned to be launched for homes in summer 2013. In the meantime, the Renewable Heat Premium Payment Scheme provides financial support in the form of one-off payments for the installation of the following technologies:
Technology | Grant Value |
---|---|
Solar Thermal | £300 |
Air Source Heat Pump | £850 |
Ground Source Heat Pump | £1,250 |
Biomass Boiler | £950 |
How to apply for the Renewable Heat Premium Payment Scheme
In order to qualify for a grant there are some strict eligibility criteria you need to be aware of. First of all, the property must be owned by you – installers and developers are not able to apply. You must have loft insulation up to 250mm and cavity insulation where appropriate. The heat technology and installer must be approved by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.
If you are satisfied that you can meet these criteria then you can apply via the Energy Saving Trust, here: https://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/scheme/view/rhpp
