Case Study - Stu Scott Davies

When Stu Scott-Davies and his wife had their first child they felt they needed more room for the baby and all it's equipment. They also wanted to use some spare money to increase the value of their home. It seemed that a house extension would fit the bill, and would also be an exciting project.

The house was already a good size in a non estate location.

Before the Extension

Stu and Jill decided to knock down the garage and make a mirror copy of the left hand side of the house on the right hand side, then put a new garage on further to the right. Here is an elevation drawing.

Within the new extension Stu and family have added a large lounge, study and WC meaning they now have 3 reception rooms,a downstairs toilet, kitchen, study and utility room on the ground floor. Upstairs they have now added 2 extra bedrooms and a shower room, giving them 5 bedrooms in total, 1 with en suite, a shower/wc room, and a family bathroom. What was already a good looking house is now an impressive family home.

The original idea for the extension was conceived in January 2002. It took a while to get through the planning stages. Several different designs had to be drawn up and submitted until an agreement was reached with the local planning authority. Then came the problem of finding a suitable builder. Finally, all these issues were resolved and work started in January 2004. The extension is due to be completed in May 2004. Stu and Jill think the total cost of the extension will be in the region of £150 000.
